Summary
Work to ensure that sufficient faculty development funds are embedded in any budget proposals that address human resource needs; work to ensure that faculty development is a major component of any human resources plan developed by the Chancellor's Office; and continue to work with the Consultation Council and the Board of Governors to increase state funding for professional development.
Status Report

The governor did not include the BCP in the January 2006 budget; the May Revise (2006) also did not include Faculty Development funding. Final budget June 06 did include funding on a one time basis. This is an ongoing task for permanent line in budget. BOG did ask for unused growth funds to possibly be used for faculty development.

Whereas, AB 1725 calls for funds for faculty development;

Whereas, AB 1725 addresses the need for hiring faculty to meet the demands of increasing enrollment in California community colleges;

Whereas, The faculty workforce and its developmental needs have increased since 1989, but the funding for faculty development has remained the same; and

Whereas, The Chancellor's Office is developing a Human Resources Plan to guide the California Community College System in meeting its human resource needs in the future;

Resolved, That the Academic Senate work to ensure that sufficient faculty development funds are embedded in any budget proposals that address human resource needs;

Resolved, That the Academic Senate work to ensure that faculty development is a major component of any human resources plan developed by the Chancellor's Office; and

Resolved, That the Academic Senate continue to work with the Consultation Council and the Board of Governors to increase state funding for professional development.
