Volunteer to Serve on a Committee!

The Academic Senate for California Community Colleges (ASCCC) is requesting your participation for statewide service! Every year we are asked to appoint nearly 1,000 faculty volunteers to various committees, workgroups, and task forces, both within our system and inter-segmentally to represent the voice and expertise of faculty in academic and professional matters. If you are interested in volunteering, please briefly fill out our online volunteer application.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • I just submitted my application, now what?

    • Thank you for submitting your application! Throughout the summer, our team will be reviewing all the volunteer applications and open committee positions. If we find that your expertise is a good fit for a committee, we will reach out to you via email to confirm your interest in serving on the assigned committee. While most of the committee appointments occur during the beginning of fall, ASCCC assigns committee appointments throughout the academic year.
    • Faculty that have applied for a committee are vetted locally through their academic senate president first. An email from the Senate Office will be sent to your local senate president for their approval. After receiving confirmation of local approval, the ASCCC president will provide final approval for the committee appointment.
  • What is the length of a committee appointment?

    • Appointed faculty are able to serve up to two consecutive years on the same committee but must be reappointed each year for service.
  • What does the commitment look like for an appointment?

    • While this depends on the needs of the committee, most committees typically meet once a month throughout the academic year.
  • What are the expectations of a committee member?

    • Committee members are expected to be an active participant in their committee. Committee members should be respectful, timely, and responsive towards their committee chair and committee members.
  • I am no longer able to serve on my committee, what should I do?

    • While it is unfortunate, we understand that these situations arise and we greatly thank you for your contributions to the committee. Please inform your committee chair and email patricia [at] asccc.org
  • I haven’t heard back from my committee chair, what do I do?

    • If you have reached out to your assigned committee chair and still have not received a response after a few weeks, please email patricia [at] asccc.org
